Subhash VCDPlayer is a general-purpose media player with special support for Video CD playback. It also allows you to capture still images from video files in bitmap format.

Subhash VCDPlayer tries to combine the stability of Windows Media Player, the ease of use of Cyberlink PowerPlayer (with keyboard shortcuts), the system tray capabilities of Winamp, and file browsing capabilities of IrfanView.

People who do DV recording will find it particularly useful as it functions like IrfanView with video files. Pressing N and P keys with the software allows one to browse files in a folder.

Apart from being able to play Video CDs, it can also play all media files such as MPEG, Windows Media Audio/Video, MP3, Wave, MIDI, etc., that are compatible with WMP 6.4.

A secret boss key allow the user to remove all traces of the program from the desktop by replacing the system tray icon with an invisible icon. This is useful if one is paranoid about ambushes by one's boss. The user can later restart from where he/she left off rather than starting everything all over again. There is also a choice of six icons to choose from.

The program's commands can be mapped to some function keys and so the user can control the program even when he/she is working in some other program. These keys work even inside games.

Foreign language versions of Subhash VCDPlayer are now available in Brazilian Portuguese, Dutch, French, and Italian.

Revision History:

Version 2.3
  • Release Date: Apr 29, 2003
  • When the contents of the download file are placed on a VCD, an autorun-enabled VCD is created. With the previous version, when such a VCD is inserted inside a CD drive, Windows would ask the person if he/she wanted to install Subhash VCDPlayer. In the new version, a help file pops up. It tells the person what a VCD is, about how it could be watched by installing Subhash VCDPlayer, and should the program be already installed, then to select it from the Start menu. This prevents the user from accidentally reinstalling the program twice. The new version has also fixed a flaw in the image capture function.
