Page 1 of 1: Convert .avi to iPod video using 3GP Converter

Software you will need:
  1. 3gp Converter
  2. iTunes

This guide will show how you can easily convert .avi files to iPoD video files. First start up 3gp Converter (if this is your first time using it, you will need to select "English" for the language). (Screen Shot Below)

After selecting "English", then select "Model: MP4, for iPod" in the upper section of the 3gp Converter window. After that click the "Apply" button. (Screen Shot Below)

From here just select the "Output Directory" and drag and drop the .avi file that you wish to convert to the top section of the 3gp Converter window. (Screen Shot Below)

After dragging and dropping the .avi file in to the 3gp Converter window, it will now start to convert the file for you. (Screen Shot Below)

After converting, 3gp Converter will automatically start up iTunes and place the newly converted file you just made in the play list window. (Screen Shot Below)

In the iTunes window, right click the file you just made and click "Get Info". (Screen Shot Below)

On the screen that pops up, click the "Info" tab at the top, and then begin to fill out the details (Name, Artist, Album, etc.). The file name can be up to 255 characters in length if you wish to change it. You also have to re-add it to the play list if you decided to re-name it. (Screen Shot Below)

Your done, just transfer it to your iPod and enjoy the video anywhere!

When I convert into any of the 3 AVC settings everything is blurry (Because its a lower quality I know that) But when I convert into any of the 2 MPEG4 ways (768kbs/2000kbs) the quality is alot better but everything is stretched as if it is suppose to be widescreen (Both the left and right sides are cut off, and all the people are tall and skinny) Is there a way to fix this using another program or even a fix using G3P, or am I just suppose to live with it? Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

i used this software to convert an avi video to my ipod and there was no damage in video quality(i have a kich a$$ graphics card). However, when i watched the video on my i pod, the audio was several seconds ahead of the movie. Does anyone know how to fix this? If u know how, point me in the right direction so I can get it fixed, because it's really weird to hear gunfire in movie, and see the person whip out his gun and fire 5 secs. later. THNX!!!!!

This process had been working great for me. I'd rip my CD, convert it to avi and then use 3GP to put it on my iPod. However, I've just started getting errors with a module called "QT3GPPFlatten.exe". It seems to be a finishing step to the 3GP process. Has anyone else seen this? How do you get past it?

Ditto - I have been running into the exact same problem. I have been using this program successfully for almost a year now. Any advice would be appreciated. this problem (QT3GPPFlatten.exe error) occured for me after winxp update (I suppose); i'm trying to figure out what is wrong; BTW you can copy file (*.mp4 or *.m4v) from temp directory (ex. \documents and settings\user name\local settings\temp) anywhere you want and just rename it.

I have a solution to the QT3GPPFlatten.exe error. (At least for my circumstances) The error first occurred for me when I "upgraded" to I-Tunes 7.5 (with quicktime). I un-installed I-tunes AND quicktime. When I re-installed I-Tunes version 7.1.1.5 (with quicktime), the problem was solved. I hope that this solution, and my week-long frustration, helps someone else.

I seem to have fixed the problem for now , I re-installed 7.4 and everything seems to be working for now, so if you have this problem try uninstalling and reinstalling 7.4 found here http://www.oldapps.com/itunes.htm

a couple things - if you can't drag and drop maybe you are running vista and launched it as an administrator. you can only drag and drop between applications which are running as the same user. So you have to close and re-run it as regular user (not admin) and you should be OK. If you get avscheck crashes, search your system for the cygwin dlls (cygwin1.dll and cygz.dll). Use only the most recent version you find (whether from the cores subdir or another dir on your system) in every place it exists. In other words, replace any older copies of these DLLs with the newest versions.
