DVD Ripping using SBC - Nandub (Smart BitRate Control )

Everyone like to have a DVD at home , but sometime it is easy to get for free from the Internet, so why not doing our own copy ?
Maybe hard to learn, no time to do the Rip (Copy the DVD) and most of the time don't know how to do it !

So here it is , this guide is made to help everyone to do their Own DVD Rip movie using the SBC Method
There is deferent way of doing a Rip Via SBC:

DVD2AVI - VFAPI

MPEG2DEC - AVISYNTH (Both File are provided in the Nimo pack)

For now we are going to use the DVD2AVI - VFAPI Method of Framesering

1-SmartRipper

Make sure your DVD drive as the DMA Setup on , it will be faster to do

Put your DVD Movie inside your dvd drive and play the movie for about 1 min, and then stop it , close the dvd player and open SmartRipper
The program will automatically find the longest title and the angle for the movie !

The setting will be the right ones
So u just need to press the Start Button !

It will take a bout 10 to 20 min to copy all the Vob files to your system , make sure you have the space required to do this, about 5 to 6 Go free !!!

I took 12 min for a 2 hour movie with the UDMA on , the speed rich some time 7.1 , coool loll ;)

OK now u have all the vob in your hard drive , you can check the vob files by opening them in Windows Media Player ( the Nimo Codec pack Will allow you to do that )

Next step is

2-DVD2AVI :

DVD2AVI project:

Open DVD2AVI and go on file open , now you have to open the first Vob file , generally the vts_01_1.vob, the program will now merge all the vob files into one big.

Just clic ok, with DVD2AVI you can extract the sound track as well, but it will slow and of course may have synchronize issue , so for that on AUDIO put the track number to : NONE

Put the process Priority to High

Now you can preview the movie by choosing Option - Preview and a window will show you all the info, the frame rate, frame type ...

Now we are going to decode the DVD by choosing: File - Save Project please do NOT choose Save AVI, this process will approximately take 10 to 20 mins...

3-VFAPI

We need to create a Fake Avi file with this project we just made :

Open VFAPI , this is include in the Folder under Nimo Codec pack , open VFAPIConv-EN.exe and clic on Add Job, now select the file you just made before with DVD2AVI , it will be something.d2v !

It will open a new window, leave the output as it is, its better to leave all the file in the same folder. And now clic OK, so the job is added to the list to finish with VFAPI clic convert that's gonna take like 5 sec and then clic Exit

The file wont tale much space , just like 8 to 15 MO Max.

You now have a Fake Avi file , but you still need the Vob files , so don't delete then yet !, the fake Avi will need them !

4-Graphedit

Now we are going to extract the Wav from the vob files

Open Graphedit and go on Graph - Insert Filters

the first one will be the : 'I-Media Multiple MPEG2 Source' and press insert,a window will pop up and ask you to open the file with the extension .lst, it is easy for us because SmartRipper made one at the first step, just search for : vts_01.lst or something like that, it will be as the same folder as the vob files !

The next filter to insert is the : 'File Writer' , this is the filter which will output the file so just create a new Wav file and take it as the output.wav

Next one are : MPEG-2 Splitter (or Ligos Mpeg Splitter); WAV Dest and InterVideo Audio Decoder and close the filter window.

Once all the filter are open , you will have something like that :

But Now you need to join them together and in the right way as follow :

In this example , only 1 ac3 track is available , which is really easy to get the right one then , but if you have more than 1 you have to try the next ac3 until you get the right one !

If you want to set the WinDVD to stereo just right click on the InterVideo box and choose properties, like so:

Ok now all the settings are done , to finish with Graphedit just press the Play button at the top ! The process will take like 15 to 25 mins

5-GogoBatch Or Cd EX

Those two are quite the same program , they will convert the wav to a Mp3 , for us , in VBR Mp3, I will suggest the GogoBacth program because it take less time to encode the wav !

Open GogoBatch and go on setting , make sure that the setting are like that :

when this is done to finish with GogoBatch , select Add and choose the wav file, this will be the one we made before using Graphedit, and Encode ! This process will take about 40 to 50 minutes Max !

6- Nandub

Now we have the the fake avi and the VBR Mp3 !

Open Nandub , and go on open - File , get your fake avi and click OK

When the avi is open , go on Video - Filters:

The first one is Cropping , the filter to use is Null Transform, what you have to do is to crop the Back bit on all side , top, bottom left side right side , once done click ok

The second and the last one is Resize filter, for this part I will recommend you , to use Flask as it will give you the precise size after cropping the movie, just open Flask and go on File - Open File, here get you first vob file , next step go select output format and make sure it is on Avi output !

Make sure you chose for Filter mode : Precise bilinear

Don't close Nandub just minimize it !

Now go on Option - Global project options, and go on show output pad , now use the cropping system and get the same as you did in Nandub!

Once the cropping done in Flask you will get the precise Size for the resise , so now just exit flask , DO NOT Save the file !!

Ok we are again in Nandub :

Go on audio make sure to select NO AUDIO, because for the 1st pass we don't need the info of the Sound track !
The 1st Pass will encode the movie at 6000 Kbps, but you don't need to worry about the space because it will only create a stat file with all the info about the Movie!

Before to do the 1st pass , we are going to setup all the settings

Just for the test we are going to put the Audio , and choose VBR Mp3 audio, now get the file we encode before using GogoBatch click ok.
Go on Video - SBC Options- BitRate Calculator, choose the size for your final movie , I will recommend 700 MO for 1 Cd rip or 2 Cd rip as well, put get data from audio source and press calculate, now you have the bit rate ! Go again on Audio tab and put the Audio to NO AUDIO

Now go on Video - SBC Options - SBC Settings , make sure you have the similar setting as follow, of course the Bitrate will be different :

Do not write what is written in : Collect in and Optional data , it is only for information !

For the end credit , with Nandub you can move the slider to the end just before that the Title and name come up,stop the slider and check the value, you can see the extract frame number, just take this number and put it in the End Credit section ! and the bit rate I will recommend like 150 or maybe even 100 !

All those setting will result to a perfect 1 Cd Rip in a 700 MO CD-R

The Video is set to Full processing and the Audio to Direct Stream copy !

Make sure that the Audio is set to NO AUDIO

So now You are ready to do the 1st Pass, Then press F8. You'll be prompted for a filename for the statistics file, this process will take the same amount of time as a normal encode, deselect the input and output preview, so just leave the PC and go to sleep :)

After the 1st pass done , you will have a file called something.stats, this is the main file who got all the info about the 1st pass

Now ready for the final pass !

For this last pass , you need to put the audio track as well, so go on Audio and chose VBR Mp3 Audio, get the file that we made before using Gogobatch and click Open

It will take few second to process the info about the File, after this done go on Video - BitRate Calculator and put , get data from the audio source , and check if all the filter are still there and corrects ! Go on Audio - Interleaving and put Preload 500 and interleave audio every 500 ms

That it ,the job is done, nearly done :)

We still have to do the last pass, the second pass !

Press F7 and the Second pass will begin , deselect the input and output preview, so you will wake up and have a very good looking movie ;)

The 1st pass will take up to 8 hours and so the 2nd pass , all depend on your system and the movie!

Ok Now that the movie is done : Check the quality , lovely isn't it :) ok now the size of the movie ? more than 700 MO? no ? Good then , if it is bigger than the size u wanted , here a good stuff , easy and cool in case that the size don't fit your Cd or Cd burner !

Do so :

Open again Nandub and your final Movie , the one you just done :)
Put Video and audio to direct stream copy , because we don't want to compress them again and lose quality! want we ?
Ok now that the movie is open , you have to give the program where the movie start and end :

So for that, at the beginning of the movie put the start point and just after the end credit put the end point of the movie, like this :

For a 2 Cd DVD Rip do the same and split the file in two parts, save the first part as yourmovie[1-2].avi and note the frame number so for the second one just put the start point where the first one finish and the end point where you got the end credits and save it as yourmovie[2-2].avi

All done :)
